Rent Tavira Apartment-Terracos de Tavira-Apartment Tavira
If you prefer not to rent a car on holiday it is perfectly possible to stay at the apartment without one and still have an enjoyable time-perhaps even more relaxing .Recently lots of our renters have not bothered renting a car and have just booked a return airport transfer either via our website or our management company. The Terracos de Tavira Complex is situated up above the river so just be aware that there are steps involved when walking to and from the apartment so if you have difficulties with steps, a car would be advisable.

In our section 'Travel to Tavira' we discuss methods of travel from the airport to the apartment and taxi companies are listed in the 'Informational Links' section .Our manager Rachel can also offer airport transfers and will email you to offer this service and others prior to your holiday.

We stayed at the apartment last autumn without a car. We walked to the new Tavira Gran Plaza (via Rua Almirante Candido dos Reis) to shop at the Continente supermarket. We took a taxi back which cost €5.There is a small Mini Preco supermaket beside the taxi rank at Rua Dr.M Franco near the Praca de Republica which is fine if you are not doing a big shop and of course the daily market is fantastic for fruit/veg meat, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts, dried fruit and olives and so much cheaper and better quality than the supermarkets. You can walk from the market to the apartment if you are not too laden down with purchases and it is not too hot!

To get to the beach at Ila de Tavira-in high season the ferry goes from the riverside and is easy to walk to from the apartment. Alternatively from the bus station which is a 5 min walk from the apartment you can take the bus to Quatro Aguas where the ferry takes the shorter route to the beach.(Check times of buses at the station)
We took a taxi to the train stop at Barilla beach outside Santa Luzia and it cost us just over €8 (for 4)-the train over to the beach costs €1 but you can also walk across it takes 15mins.We walked left along the beach all the way back to the part of the beach accessible from Tavira and then took a water taxi back to Tavira town.

All of the restaurants and bars can be walked to from the Terracos de Tavira apartment and there are plenty of recommendations in the visitors book and in our restaurant guide. Just remember when you are having that night cap you have to get back up the steps-or go on spoil yourself and get a taxi. .you're on your holidays!

To travel further afield buses run daily from the bus station to the smaller towns around Tavira and you can also walk to the train station 20mins where trains run regularly to Faro and Portimao in one direction and Vila Real San Antonio in the other direction.
Day trips to water parks, zoo marine, boat trips etc can all be booked in several travel shops in town and you will be picked up by bus for these in Tavira town or at one of the hotels.
A car free holiday can save you money and hassle and if you spend a lot of time running around in your car as most of us do it can be a nice change and a real holiday!
The drive from Faro airport to Tavira is very straight forward and takes 25 minutes-it is mostly on the A22 motorway which is the road running the length of the Algarve making all areas very accessible.Full directions will be given for driving to the apartment whether you are coming from Faro or Seville airport.
The A22 Motorway is now tolled and you will probably have a device on your rental car which will record any toll you incur during your holiday, these tolls will then be charged to whatever credit car you used to book the car after you return home. It is an efficient system and saves you having to visit the post office to pay the tolls.

Driving around Tavira town can be a little tricky with all the one way streets but it isn't very big so you will soon get used to it.The EN125 which circles around the outskirts of the town heading to Vila Real San Antonio is handy for getting to the otherside of town without going through it and is ideal for going to the tennis courts/swimming pool or the Tavira Gran Plaza shopping centre from the apartment.
You can drive via Santa Luzia to the train stop to Barilla beach-there isn't a huge amount of parking there but when the car park is full people park on the roadside in high season. The other beach you can drive to is Praia Verde which is mentioned in our beach section.
